Barleygreen "Food From the Past"

Dr. Hagiwara, was a Japanese pharmaceutical scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, and the creator of Barleygreen (also know as Barley Green), a powered juice extract from young barley grass.

He is widely recognized as a pioneer in green food supplements.  After extensive research comparing over 150 green plants and leafy varieties in Japan, he identified young barley grass as one of the most nutritionally balanced natural foods due to its braod spectrum of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, chlorophyll, amino acids, and other 

phytochemical.  He developed a low-heat juice extraction and spray drying process to preserve the delicate active nutrients and enzymes (avoiding heat damage that inactivated them in earlier attempts). This process earned him Japan's Director General of the Science and Technologyy Agency Award in 1987.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

• 1949:  Received B.A. in Pharmacology from Kumamoto University; founde Hagiweara Pharmacy in Japan. 

• 1952:  Established Yamashiro Pharmaceutical Co., Japan. 

• 1960:  Received M. D. from Tokushima University, Japan.  

• 1968 - 1970's:  Founded Japan Pharmaceutical Development Co., Ltd.; Japan Natural Foods Co., Ltd.; and an Oita Factory in Japan.  Received the Invention Encouragement Award (1975).  Founded the Green and Health Association (1976) and published the best-selling book Green Barley Essence (1976). 

• 1979:  Became Director of the Research Institute of Health Foods of Japan.  1980:  Established Green Foodsd porstion in Oxnard, Californi (later associsted with YH Products Corporation / YH International for U. S. manufacturing); founded the Hagiwara Institute of Health.
  

•  1980's - 1990's; Rreived recognition from the Interntionsl Foundation for Preventive Medicine:

              (1981);  Lifetime Dedication to Pharmaceutical Industry Award from th Governor of Osaka.

              (1982);  Established research partnership with the University of California, David Environmental Toxicology Department

              (1991);  Founded the Higawara Institute Institute of Health in Kobe.

              (1993);  Described as Japan's largest privately funded cancer research facility at the time.

• 1995; Received a Special Award from the Brazilian Government for contributions to world health snd welfare.
• 2004:  Died on June 5th in Osaka, Japan, at age 70.

Dr.Hagiwara focused on whole-food nutrition rather than isolated vitamins or minerals, emphasizing synergistic biological effects.  Barley for Barleygreen was later grown in locations such as Oxnard, California (and subsequently other U. S. sites selected for soil and climate), after comparative testing.  The product remains available through companies, such as Barleygreen USA an Authorized Distributor, linked to his original process(e.g., YH International), though it has faced criticism from skeptics regarding some heaslh claims made by distributors. 

Other individuals with similar names(e.g., researchers in dentistry, orthopedics, or robotics) exist but do not match this profile.  Other products with similar names exist but do not have the background and quality as Dr. Hagiwara's Original Organic Barleygreen Premium.   

Note that some BarleyGreen produts marketing refers to "Dr. Hagiwara's Premier Formula since 1987", which appears to a refined or US-oriented version (around the time of further commercialization and the award),rather than the initial discovery of the core formula and process.
